Queen Elizabeth Continuing Education is pleased to offer the Workforce Trade Certification Program. This program will run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 9:30pm. The start date is September 12, 2019 and the program concludes on December 19, 2019.

Two Youth Explore Trades Skills (Skills Explorations) courses are available to students through Summer Learning. The popular Construction Youth Explore Trades Skills course is offered again this year and will be based at Princess Margaret Secondary.
In addition, a new Culinary Youth Explore Trades Skills course will run this summer. This course is designed to introduce students to three apprenticeable trades in the hospitality industry: Cook, Baker, and Meatcutter in a fully operational commercial kitchen environment.
The Culinary, Baking, and Meatcutting summer course is scheduled for July 2 – 26, 2019 at Enver Creek Secondary.

Application Due Date – Thursday, December 6th, 2018, no later than 12PM to Mr. Fisher in the Career office. The cost of the Academy for this year is $800. Students do not submit any payment at this time. Instructions for collecting payment will follow in February.
Fitness Testing – Tuesday, December 11th, 2018, at 4PM at North Surrey Secondary. (Please have students arrive early – 3:30PM – and meet in the cafeteria HUB. Testing will begin promptly at 4PM. Dress appropriately as the run will take place outside on the track).
Interviews – Tentatively scheduled for Monday, January 14th to Friday, January 18th, 2019, at the Newton RCMP Detachment. (Students will be notified of their interview time only AFTER successfully completing the Physical Fitness Test).
Notification – All students will be notified of their acceptance, alternate, or decline status no later than January 31st, 2019.
Academy – Monday, April 15th to Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019, at the Stillwood Camp and Conference Centre. (44005 Watt Rd. Cultus Lake, Chilliwack, V2R 4X9).

Career education programs provide secondary school students (Grades 11 and 12) with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and experience to further their education and employment opportunities.
Many of the district’s career programs are in partnership with British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Emily Carr University of Art + Design (ECUAD), Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) and Vancouver Community College (VCC) along with private training institutions.
The partnership program provides students with opportunities to receive industry certification or post-secondary course credits in addition to meeting the requirements for high school graduation.

Skills Exploration 10 will give students entering grade 10 the opportunity to experience a hands-on introduction to the construction trades of carpentry, electrical, plumbing and welding. Students will learn essential skills such as how to measure, cut, wire, build and weld; skills and attitudes needed for success in school and the workplace; benefits of Apprenticeship and Surrey District Partnership Programs, and career-related opportunities.
As this is a full-day program and very labour intensive, students must be able to work independently on a job-site environment with minimum one-on-one instruction.
