Name: Donathon Green
District Program: Carpentry
Future Aspirations: To get an apprenticeship with an established Construction Company. I want to save so that I can buy my own house and one day have a family.
Donathon is a Grade 12 Clayton Heights student who has been selected for the District Career Program for Carpentry. We recently sat down and had a Q & A period.
When did you start to consider entering the district partnership program?
I started thinking about it in grade 10 when I was at Guildford Park Secondary. I liked that it was a free program for anyone who wanted to get ahead in life. Plus, if you change your mind on your future career goals you still have a new skill you can utilize and fall back on.
What made you choose the carpentry district partnership program?
I like building things to showcase my talent. I like the practicality of carpentry, I can build houses and renovate my own home one day.
What does your district program entail?
I’ll be leaving Clayton Heights when semester 1 is finished and will begin the Foundations/Level 1 Carpentry program which is being held at both Guildford Park Secondary and during the month of May I will be attending Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
What does it feel like to be graduating early?
I just got use to high school and don’t really want to leave yet, but it’s worth it as I’ll be on track to a better future. When my friends are just finishing high school I will already have completed the first year apprenticeship technical training for Carpentry (Level 1 Technical Training Equivalency).
What is your favourite part of being in the district partnership program?
It saves me a lot of money and gives me duel credits towards high school and college. I like that I will be with people who want to learn just as much as I do.
Who in your life has most influenced you?
My dad – he works hard all day every day to support his family.
What would you tell someone who is looking at going into a district partnership program?
Apply before it’s too late because spots are limited and there are a lot of people who want to get in. It’s a really good choice for anybody that wants to get part of their college paid for.
We wish Donathon a huge congratulations and look forward to updates on how he’s doing in the program! Good Luck Donathon!
